CorneaVisual loss from corneal disease results from a loss of transparency or regularity of the cornea. Normal corneal tissue is transparent and consists of 3 basic layers: Epithelium, stroma, and endothelium. Although the cornea is usually only 0.5mm thick, many diseases may involve only a single layer of the cornea. Although corneal transplants can replace any of these layers, full thickness transplants are not always necessary.

If you are a patient suffering from corneal diseases, keratoconus or may require a corneal transplant be sure to contact the cornea eye specialists at Phillips Eye Specialists in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. We are very excited to provide cornea surgery by an experienced New Jersey cornea specialist Dr. Robert Latkany. Dr. Latkany is Board Certified in Cornea and and Corneal Surgery.
