Cataracts Center

What is a cataract?

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens located inside the eye.

When left untreated or ignored, a cataract can get worse and eventually cause vision loss and get in the way of life as you know it. Undetected cataracts can often affect the way we see light, color and life in general. Often the symptoms go undetected or are thought of as an unavoidable part of the aging process. But cataracts can also develop due to traumatic eye injury, from a previous eye surgery, from steroids medications or health conditions like diabetes. Cataracts can also develop at birth or in early childhood due to genetic disease or congenital infections.

Treatment Options

When treating your cataract, there are options available. The right treatment plan will be customized based on the results of your consultation and these treatment options.

  • Monofocal Implants

During traditional cataract surgery, your cataract is replaced with an artificial lens called a Monofocal Implant. This basic procedure does not correct astigmatism and may still require the patient to wear glasses post-surgery to correct any residual distance or reading prescriptions.

  • Premium Procedure

Our specialists often recommend upgrading to our Premium Procedure, where a Toric implant is inserted during surgery to correct astigmatism. The Toric implant is customized based on the patient’s prescription and works well to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and a moderate to large degree of astigmatism. This lens option corrects blurry vision, provides sharp distance vision without glasses.

  • Premium Plus Procedure

Patients with healthy eyes who qualify to upgrade to our Premium Plus Procedure can experience even better results because our specialists insert an advanced-technology extended range or reading implant. The Premium Plus option improves vision, corrects blurry vision caused by astigmatism, provides sharp distance vision without glasses and potentially eliminates a need for reading glasses.

  • Femtosecond Cataract Laser

During cataract surgery, we often recommend upgrading to the Femtosecond Cataract Laser. This safe, state of the art laser technology corrects small and moderate amounts of astigmatism, allows us make precise cataract incisions prior to surgery and helps patients achieve their best possible vision outcomes faster.
